At The Bat by Del Leonard Jones5/31/2023 Junior Jessica Lemmon entered the game with two outs in the inning and was able to get shortstop Lexi Slater to pop up to the shortstop to end the threat. The Cyclones continued the offensive onslaught with three more runs in the top of the fourth off Linton. Lira (1-1) was tagged with the loss after pitching 0.2 innings and giving up three hits and three earned runs. Saint Mary's senior pitcher Britany Linton entered the game with two outs in the inning and struck out right fielder Madison Jones to end the inning. The Cyclones starting pitcher Tori Torrescano did her part at the plate and hit a two-run blast in the bottom of the first to put Iowa State up 3-0. Iowa State centerfielder Amber Ewert singled to open the game and scored on a double by first baseman Erica Miller. The Cyclones jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first and caused an early exit for Saint Mary's starting pitcher Sarah Lira. Lira's only hit of the day was an RBI triple which marked her first career hit. Rebecca Sabatini and Sarah Lira accounted for the Gaels' other two hits. Sophomore Brittany Sabatini finished the day 2-for-4 with a run scored, while senior Mandy Camuso went 2-for-3 with a walk. Saint Mary's struggled early at the plate but eventually pounded out six hits in the game. The Gaels drop to 7-14 with the loss, while Iowa State improves to 9-15 on the season. The Saint Mary's softball team could not overcome a big deficit to Iowa State on Sunday morning, falling to the Cyclones 9-3.
